What we walked into, and what we did.
The problem
Several deck boards had split along the grain after years of coastal weather, creating trip hazards and letting moisture into the subframe. The owner wanted the boards replaced without re-doing the entire deck.
Our approach
We pulled the damaged boards, checked the joists underneath for rot, cut new lengths of matching hardwood to size and fastened them with stainless steel screws. The surrounding boards were sanded back and the whole section received two coats of exterior decking oil.
The result
The repaired section blends with the rest of the deck and the owner can walk barefoot again without catching splinters. Total turnaround was one full day on site.
